A Year Unbeaten at Villa Park

Saturday's match against Newcastle marked a significant record. Nineteen Premier League games unbeaten at home for Aston Villa. It's their longest run ever on home soil in the competition. Although the match was not a very bright display, Villa would certainly take the point given the circumstances of Ezri Konsa's red card. The result takes the tally to eight draws and eleven wins in the league during the run.

Whilst, at present, it's not exactly 365 days since their last defeat at home. By the time Villa host Crystal Palace on Sunday 31st August it would have crossed the mark. The record is a massive achievement for the Villans and shows how important the Villa supporters are to their team. Visiting teams often struggle due to the electric atmosphere created and the supporters providing the Villa side with second wind.

Notable Results

Villa enjoyed some significant wins along the way including the 2-1 win over Manchester City, where Morgan Rogers showcased his talent with a goal and an assist. Marco Asensio's crucial double against Chelsea in a 2-1 victory. A 4-1 hammering against Newcastle, which saw Villa completely blow the Magpies out of the water.

Performances at Villa Park have certainly been consistent, but Villa would probably have wanted to convert some of those draws into wins which would have seen them qualify for the Champions League. The last-minute equaliser from Bournemouth and the draw between Ipswich were games where Villa had numerous chances to win, but couldn't convert many of them. However, defensively Villa have looked solid, especially with Tyrone Mings at the back. In fact Villa have only lost one of their last eighteen matches when Mings has started, highlighting the importance of the Englishman.

Looking Ahead

Unai Emery will want his side to continue these performances at home as well as carrying it into their away form, which they struggled with last year. They head to Brentford next weekend hoping to get their first win on the board this season. Emery will expect an improvement from their rustiness that they showed on Saturday.

Aston Villa are still yet to win a game this season after they were held to a 1-1 draw to ten-man Sunderland yesterday. There is undoubtedly concern from supporters as to what is actually going on at the club and why they look like a complete ghost of the side that played in the Champions League last season. Although tactically there are some issues, ultimately it's the players' own performances that are well below the standard set since Unai Emery arrived. There seems to be eleven individuals

The miserable run continues for Aston Villa as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brentford on penalties. Both sides made numerous changes to their starting XIs, but neither team really dominated the game. Brentford Performance Keith Andrews' side probably executed the game plan they set out for the match. Defending in a low-block and trying to hit Villa on the counter was clear to see, but in open play they didn't really look like scoring. Their main threat, as it has been so far th

Aston Villa managed to hold on to a 0-0 draw against Everton, who will be disappointed they only walked away with one point. The Toffees had some great chances to take the lead, but Emiliano MartĂnez put in a fine performance to keep the game level. Despite his transfer saga, he certainly proved his worth to the Villa supporters and may have already made up for his behaviour. Everton Performance Everton started the game well, controlling possession and coming close on a number of occasions. B
