Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinai Venkatesham Confirms Spurs Not for Sale

Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinai Venkatesham has firmly addressed speculation about the club’s future, declaring that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale.

Following the high-profile departure of former chairman Daniel Levy, Venkatesham emphasized the club’s robust succession plan and the pivotal roles of Vivienne Lewis, Charlie Lewis, and Nick Beucher from Tavistock Group in driving Spurs toward sustained success.

This article explores Tottenham’s new era, the Lewis family’s commitment, and the club’s ambitions to compete for major trophies.

Seamless Transition After Daniel Levy’s Departure

Daniel Levy’s exit as chairman earlier this year sent ripples through the football world, given his transformative impact on Tottenham Hotspur. Under his stewardship, Spurs evolved into a Premier League powerhouse, bolstered by the world-class Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, Venkatesham reassured fans that the transition has been smooth internally. “The club is well organised for succession. We have a very strong executive leadership team in place,” he said. “Although it’s big news externally [Daniel Levy departing], inside the club it’s business as usual.”

This stability sets the stage for Tottenham’s next chapter, with a clear focus on competing at the highest level. Venkatesham pointed to recent performances, such as those in Bilbao, as evidence of the club’s ambition to win major trophies. “This is a new era for the club under new leadership. We saw in Bilbao what that next step is, competing for and ultimately winning major trophies,” he stated, signaling a bold vision for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Lewis Family’s Long-Term Commitment to Tottenham

The Lewis family, majority owners since acquiring a controlling stake in 2022, are at the heart of Tottenham’s future. Venkatesham praised their dedication, describing their “laser focus” on ensuring long-term success for Spurs’ teams. “The Lewis family are very, very passionate about Tottenham. What they are really focused on is giving our men’s and women’s teams the best chance of success on the pitch in the long term,” he explained.

A key element of this vision is the involvement of the family’s next generation. Vivienne Lewis, daughter of principal owner Joe Lewis, is a regular presence at Spurs matches and joined the team for the entirety of their pre-season tour this summer. “There has been a big focus on the club from the next generation of the family. First there is Viv Lewis, who is a very regular attendee at Tottenham Hotspur games,” Venkatesham noted.

Fans can also expect increased involvement from Charlie Lewis, Vivienne’s brother, and Nick Beucher, her husband and a key figure in Tavistock Group, the family’s investment firm with expertise in sports and real estate. “Going forward, you’ll also be seeing a lot more of her brother Charlie and son-in-law Nick,” Venkatesham added. Tavistock’s experience could further enhance Tottenham’s commercial ventures, aligning with the club’s growth strategy.

Peter Charrington’s Strategic Role on the Board

The appointment of Peter Charrington to the board in March marks another step in Tottenham’s evolution. Unlike Levy’s hands-on approach, Charrington’s role is strategic, focusing on empowering the club’s leadership. “Peter Charrington is not new to the board. He joined in March. He’s a great guy. He’s very personable and experienced, and we have a great relationship,” Venkatesham said. “It’s important to say he’s going to be doing a very different role to the one Daniel Levy did… he won’t be involved with the club on a full-time basis. His role is about empowering us on the ground.”

Charrington’s leadership will guide the board while supporting the club’s 800-strong workforce. Venkatesham emphasized the collective effort, stating, “Naturally as CEO my name ends up in the media, but this is not all about me. We have got 800 people at the club and we need everyone pulling together and driving us forward.”

Tottenham Hotspur Not for Sale: A Clear Message

Amid ongoing speculation about potential takeovers in the Premier League, Venkatesham delivered a definitive statement to quell rumours. “We made a statement, which I hope was unambiguously clear, that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale,” he declared. The Lewis family views their ownership as a generational commitment, ensuring stability and continuity for the club.

Looking Ahead: Trophies Over Takeovers

With Thomas Frank leading the squad and strategic investments in both the men’s and women’s teams, Tottenham is poised for success in the 2025-26 season. Venkatesham’s comments reflect a club united in its pursuit of silverware, backed by a passionate ownership group and a clear vision. For Spurs fans, the message is clear: the focus is on trophies, not takeover bids.
